E. Alec Martin, Program Manager, Veterinary Skills Training & Enhancement Program

Dr. Martin graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph with a DVM in 1984. He practiced for 15 years; 7 as an associate veterinarian and 8 as a partner.

In 1991, Dr. Martin joined the Complaints Committee of the College of Veterinarians of Ontario. He was elected to the CVO Council in 1993 after which he chaired the Complaints Committee. In 1998, Dr. Martin was elected to the position of president of the College and in 1999 he joined the staff of the College as Deputy Registrar where he served the Complaints, Accreditation and Discipline Committees until November 2005.

During his tenure at the CVO, Dr. Martin attended the University of Waterloo, where he obtained his Level I and Level II certification in mediation following which he completed an MBA at Wilfrid Laurier University.

Dr. Martin now manages the Veterinary Skills Training & Enhancement Program in Guelph, Ontario.


Jennifer Thurtell, Program Coordinator, Veterinary Skills Training & Enhancement Program

Jennifer Thurtell graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts in English. She then lived in British Columbia and traveled through Europe, before returning to school and obtaining her Bachelor of Education at Memorial University of Newfoundland.

For more than a decade, Jennifer worked for the Toronto District School Board teaching Outdoor Education, English and Special Education.

Jennifer taught grade 6 in Medellin, Colombia for 2 years, during which time she toured South America. She has also spent a year in New Zealand and Australia.
